The S com plus is a highly adaptable stereo compressor/limiter in an
efficient single rackspace design. It is intended for situations where
extra flexibility is required to optimize signal levels. It delivers
essential control along with simplicity of operation. S com plus's
comprehensive and wide-ranging controls provide extensive manipulation
of audio dynamics, even in the most complex situations.</span><p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Each
channel features a wide range of variable control. A feature-rich
Compressor section includes variable Threshold, Ratio, Attack and
Release controls. Samson's SKD (Smart Knee Detector) circuit
dynamically adjusts the compression curve to ensure a musical result.
Our exclusive AEG (Auto Envelope Generator) function simplifies optimum
settings by constantly analyzing the audio input and automatically
adjusting the attack and release parameters based on the changing
level. Key Inputs and Outputs are included for externally processing
the control voltage.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">The Expander/Gate features a variable
threshold level and switchable release time (fast or slow). The Gate
switch changes the downward expander ratio from "light" to "hard"
gating for control ranging from subtle to an obvious effect. A
dedicated Peak/Limiter with variable control provides protection
against peak and overload independently of the compressor. When used in
combination with the Compressor the Peak/Limiter offers even more
precise control over dynamic levels.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">A functional De-esser
improves audio quality by removing "S" from vocals and sibilance from
overly bright signal sources such as cymbals. The Enhancer switch
engages the EFR (Enhanced Frequency Recovery) circuit, which restores
high frequencies that are sometimes diminished by heavy compression.
Extensive metering includes Input/Output, Gain Reduction, De-esser

C300 gives you source-based presets that are tailor-made for various
types of sources. Depending on the preset you select you have access to
intelligent TC full-band- or multi-band technology. <br><br>The C300’s
multi-band processing is built on a state-of-the-art TC algorithm that
bases it’s calculations on the incoming source, and that’s why it’s
called source-based. A multi-band compressor, as opposed to a full band
compressor, acts differently on different frequency bands. This means
that each frequency band actually has its own little compressor working
on it, with unique settings like threshold, ratio, attack and release.
If you for instance prefer a steep compression on the lower
frequencies, a soft compression on the mid frequencies, and a bright
and light compression on the higher frequencies, you should use a
multi-band compressor. <br><br>The C300 comes with several presets
that are fully optimized for this kind of compression and you’ll be
surprised just how easy multi-band compression can be. <br><br><span style="font-weight: bold; font-size: 12pt;">New style compression – an innovative approach to compression</span><br>We've
analyzed the decisions that world class engineers make when they
compress and compiled them inside the C300, offering you a completely
new approach to working with compression. Now you can take a compressed
signal and mix it with a dry signal and enhance all details in the
music, just by turning the mix knob. Instead of pressing down the
signal peaks it preserves all the higher dynamics when you play loud,
and at the same time it brings out all the details from the lower end
of the signal. Try to apply parallel compression on a drum kit. You’ll
soon discover that all the lower details are smacked in your face,
while still preserving the bells and high dynamics of the snare and
cymbals “uncompressed”, so to speak. And the really cool thing about it
is that the C300 makes parallel or new style compression the easiest
thing in the world – just select source preset, and you’re up and
running!<br><br><span style="font-weight: bold; font-size: 12pt;">Simple, intuitive and straightforward</span><br>The
entire user interface has been laid out to be simple, intuitive and
straightforward. All non-essential knobs and tweaking options have been
cut away and replaced with innovative combinations and expansions of

C300 comes with a flexible routing feature that gives you all
combinations of parallel and serial link modes. Stereo serial mode
allows you to process a composite full-mix signal on both engines
simultaneously, virtually giving you an extra device. With the C300 you
can insert a stereo full-mix signal into one engine, e.g. compress it,
and then send the stereo signal into the second engine, and e.g. limit
it, and then send out a processed full-mix stereo signal. What this
gives you is the full use of stereo processing on two serial connected
engines, something that’s not normally attainable from this type of
dynamics processor.<br><br>In normal dual/mono mode you’ll either use
one engine as a compressor and the other as a gate – or both engines as
compressors or gates, having two individually processed mono signals
coming out from each engine. Or, you’ll link the two engines together,
and e.g. use the first engine to compress the signal, and then the

professional recording channel strip containing a discrete class A
transformer-coupled microphone preamplifier, compressor, and three-band
parametric equalizer. The microphone preamplifier features variable
input impedance so that the Eureka can be matched and "tuned" for all
types of microphones and recording applications. The Class A
transformer-coupled microphone preamplifier also features "SATURATE"
which adjusts the drain current on the input FET amplifier to simulate
of the effects of tape saturation and tube "warmth".</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">The Eureka's
ultra fast compressor has both soft and hard knee compression as well
as a separate make up gain stage and hi-pass side chain compression to
deliver hard pumping to ultra transparent compression and everything in
between. The Eureka's three-band fully parametric EQ gives you variable
Q (bandwidth) on each band as well as an EQ pre COMP switch to put the
EQ before the Compressor in the signal path. The equalizer has
overlapping frequency selection on each band for total tonal control
and shaping.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">The Eureka is loaded with microphone, line and
instrument input so you can use it as a front end preamplifier for
recording with microphones, guitars, keyboards, synths as well as a
compressor/equalizer on a single channel during mixdown. The Eureka
also has balanced send and return jacks so that you can insert your
favorite outboard processor before the compressor/EQ to further enhance

<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">On one hand you can choose from optical compression, like that in
our Pro VLA, for that smooth transparent compression. On the other hand
you might want to use a VCA based compression scheme for hard limiting.
Both of these compression methods are underneath the hood of this
single space rack unit. Taking it even one step further the TCS offers
the breakthrough feature of stacking the VCA and the opto isolator for
when you want that over the top compression, or a hard VCA limiter on
your optical compressed channels.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Going beyond the idea of just a two-channel compressor, ART decided
to spice up the TCS with our famous V3™ technology. The TCS also offers
the ability for the user to twist the V3 knob to a variety of settings
that take some of the hassle out of compression, yet still allowing

tube mic/line preamplifier and optical tube compressor. ART engineers
took the Tube MP and Tube Compressor and combined them into a single
convenient aircraft-quality, extruded aluminum chassis. This new
table-top design allows for easy placement in the studio or on the
stage with immediate access to all the controls, features, and
metering. In addition to being a tremendous vocal and instrument

<p><span style="font-size: 12pt;">The mic/line preamplifier stage is that of the TEC nominated Tube
MP–a time (and studio) proven design. It provides over 70dB of gain,
+48v phantom power, phase reversal, and is capable of warming up any
instrument or microphone. LED level indicators are provided to monitor
the output of a 12AX7a tube for harmonic content. The input level
controls allows you to dial in the desired amount of tube warmth and
then independently set the output level from the compressor circuitry.
The tube compressor is a VCA-less, optical design–similar to that of
the “classic” tube compressors. Its ultra-musical sound is ideal for
voice and instrument applications. Threshold, compression/limiting
ratios, adjustable release times, bypass, gain reduction metering, and

Even the input and outputs connectors were chosen for their standard

 Audio Designs DC-2</span> provides two channels of instrument/line 
amplifiers and F.E.T. compressors. Each compressor can be used 
independently or linked for stereo operation. The unit will take the 
signal from a line level source or instrument and process it so that it 
is ready to feed straight into a recording device such as a computer 
controlled digital audio workstation or analog storage device such as a 
multi-track tape recorder. Each section can also be inserted into the 
path of a mixer channel to provide individual channel compression, or as
 a linked pair, the two channels can be placed across the stereo mix.<br><br>Each
 of the two sections offer a wide range of control coupled with 
extremely high quality analog electronics that have a real pedigree. The
 line/instrument amplifier is the same design as used in Malcolm Toft's 
top range of recording consoles, while the compressor section borrows 
heavily from vintage Trident designs. It can operate as two separate 
channels, or by using the compressor-couple- control can be linked so 
that the stereo image does not shift when compression is taking place 
(more about this in the compressor section). Because of this feature, it
 is also possible to connect the DC 2 across the final mix to add the 
finishing touches as a mastering tool. <br><br>The DC2 can be used to 
provide a pristine signal path of exceptional quality when required 
allowing subtle control of the audio path, or it can be used to add 
extra punch and dynamics to an otherwise lackluster signal.</span></span>

latest available manufacturing techniques, the dbx 1046 provides
pristine sonic quality with that classic dbx sound.</span>
  <p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">The 1046
provides 4 channels of smooth classic dbx OverEasy&reg; or Hard Knee
compression that are perfectly suited for use on individual tracks of
your multitrack recorder, and in virtually all applications the
separate channels can be individually interfaced and used for entirely
independent purposes. Additionally the newly developed PeakStopPlus™ is
ideal for protecting your system from the oppressive peaks that can
take out valuable drivers in your sound reinforcement rig or studio
monitors.</span></p>
  <p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">All four channels have the following controls:</span></p>
  <p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Threshold - allows you to set the level at which the compressor starts affecting the gain</span></p>

- allows you to select between soft compression for overall gain
control or Hard Knee compression based on the characteristics of the

Meter - allows you to set the meter to check the input and output

have difficulty working with the electronic signals supplied by an
amplifier. These difficulties cause such major phase and amplitude
distortion that the sound reproduced by the speaker differs
significantly from the sound produced by the original source.<br>In the
past, these problems proved unsolvable and were thus relegated to a
position of secondary importance in audio system design. However, phase
and amplitude integrity is essential to accurate sound reproduction.
Research shows that the information which the listener translates into
the recognizable characteristics of a live performance are intimately
tied into complex time and amplitude relationships between the
fundamental and harmonic components of a given musical note or sound.
These relationships define a sound's "sound".<br>When these complex
relationships pass through a speaker, the proper order is lost. The
higher frequencies are delayed. A lower frequency may reach the
listener's ear first or perhaps simultaneously with that of a higher
frequency. In some cases, the fundamental components may be so
time-shifted that they reach the listener's ear ahead of some or all of
the harmonic components.<br>This change in the phase and amplitude
relationship on the harmonic and fundamental frequencies is technically
called "envelope distortion." The listener perceives this loss of sound
integrity in the reproduced sound as "muddy" and "smeared." In the
extreme, it can become difficult to tell the difference between musical
instruments, for example, an oboe and a clarinet.<br>BBE Sound, Inc.
conducted extensive studies of numerous speaker systems over a ten year
period. With this knowledge, it became possible to identify the
characteristics of an ideal speaker and to distill the corrections
necessary to return the fundamental and harmonic frequency structures
to their correct order. While there are differences among various
speaker designs in the magnitude of their correction, the overall
pattern of correction needed is remarkably consistent.<br>The BBE Process is so unique that 42 patents have been awarded by the U.S. Patent Office.</span></p>

operate.<br><br><span style="font-weight: bold;">The BBE Process-"What it Is"</span><br><br>Loudspeakers
have difficulty working with the electronic signals supplied by an
amplifier. These difficulties cause such major phase and amplitude
distortion that the sound reproduced by the speaker differs
significantly from the sound produced by the original source.<br>In the
past, these problems proved unsolvable and were thus relegated to a
position of secondary importance in audio system design. However, phase
and amplitude integrity is essential to accurate sound reproduction.
Research shows that the information which the listener translates into
the recognizable characteristics of a live performance are intimately
tied into complex time and amplitude relationships between the
fundamental and harmonic components of a given musical note or sound.
These relationships define a sound's "sound".<br>When these complex
relationships pass through a speaker, the proper order is lost. The
higher frequencies are delayed. A lower frequency may reach the
listener's ear first or perhaps simultaneously with that of a higher
frequency. In some cases, the fundamental components may be so
time-shifted that they reach the listener's ear ahead of some or all of
the harmonic components.<br>This change in the phase and amplitude
relationship on the harmonic and fundamental frequencies is technically
called "envelope distortion." The listener perceives this loss of sound
integrity in the reproduced sound as "muddy" and "smeared." In the
extreme, it can become difficult to tell the difference between musical
instruments, for example, an oboe and a clarinet.<br>BBE Sound, Inc.
conducted extensive studies of numerous speaker systems over a ten year
period. With this knowledge, it became possible to identify the
characteristics of an ideal speaker and to distill the corrections
necessary to return the fundamental and harmonic frequency structures
to their correct order. While there are differences among various
speaker designs in the magnitude of their correction, the overall
pattern of correction needed is remarkably consistent.<br>The BBE Process is so unique that 42 patents have been awarded by the U.S. Patent Office.</span></p>

different devices, as well as reconfiguring outboard processing racks
is a costly, time-consuming task, further complicated by the number of
hardware options available.</span>
				<p style="line-height: 1.3em;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">The

time.</span></p><h4><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Default Compressor</span></h4>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">RMS sensing type. With both mode
switches inactive the compressor behaves in the default Soft Knee and
RMS mode. This gives the slowest (and most subtle) feel to the
compressor envelopes. The soft knee curvature combines with the
adaptive RMS attack and release times to produce gentle envelope
curvatures that are ideal for compressing sung vocals but which can
still be aggressive enough to limit transients when needed. The knee
curvature also reduces the adaptive nature of the RMS detection
slightly, providing a little more manual control of the envelope
timings than is the case below. When Hard Knee is activated the
compressor operates in a more clinical way with a more defined
transition between under threshold and over threshold; this is better
suited to limiting style compression. A small amount of soft knee is
still retained keeping the sound reasonably natural but no modification
of the envelope occurs. This means that attacks are more aggressive,
but it also allows the adaptive nature of the RMS detection to operate
to its fullest extent. This mode is good for natural sounding limiting
of speech.</span></p>
					
					<h4><span style="font-size: 10pt;">"Vintage" Compressor</span></h4>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Peak
sensing type. When Hard Knee and Vintage are activated the compressor
operates with more precise envelope control and a defined transition
between under and over threshold. This mode uses faster peak sensing
(not RMS) like many older compressor designs with exponential attack
and release. This produces aggressive compression that gives good fast
control, and/or limiting, of extremely dynamic material. It can also be
used to add colour to low frequency signals making it ideal for
controlling instruments like bass guitar. When Vintage is active alone,
the compressor employs a dual time constant, linear attack profile. The
soft knee blurring of threshold occurs, (as in RMS mode), however, the
effect is greatly accentuated and this produces extremely subtle attack
and release curves during the onset of compression that are largely
independent of the envelope control settings. As the compressor is
driven harder (i.e. signals further over threshold) the soft knee
effect reduces, gradually returning manual control of the attack and
release times to optimise capture of larger transients etc. Thus, like
the RMS modes, this compressor mode is very adaptive making set up of
the envelope controls relatively easy. The peak sensing, however,
increases harmonic overtones, which add a "vintage" brightness and
sparkle to the programme, producing extremely transparent, lively
sounding compression of acoustic instruments.</span></p>
					
					<h4><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Broadband frequency-conscious compressor</span></h4>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Setup
as per compressor, in either RMS or "VINTAGE" modes. Activate FILTER in
wide mode, sweep to desired frequency &amp; apply frequency-dependant
compression as required</span></p>
					
					<h4><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Hi-Q frequency-conscious compressor (De-esser)</span></h4>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Setup
as per compressor, in either RMS or "VINTAGE" modes. Activate FILTER in
NARROW mode, sweep to desired frequency &amp; apply frequency-dependant
compression as required. Excellent for reducing sibilance or other
undesirable artefacts from vocals, or for removing specific resonances
from instruments or programme material.</span></p>
					
					<h4><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Limiter</span></h4>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Set
compressor to "VINTAGE" (peak) mode, hard knee, fastest ATTACK, with
the RATIO at infinity to one. Adjust RELEASE to suit programme. Set
THRESHOLD for onset of process.</span></p>
					
					<h4><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Expander</span></h4>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Switch
to "GATE" mode, set THRESHOLD, ATTACK, HOLD, and RELEASE times to suit
programme, control dynamic range expansion using "RANGE" control. Use
sidechain FILTER for frequency-dependant expansion, i.e dynamic noise
reduction.</span></p>
					
					<h4><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Gate</span></h4>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Switch to "GATE"
mode, set THRESHOLD, ATTACK, HOLD, and RELEASE times to suit programme,
set attenuation depth using "RANGE" control. Use SIDECHAIN FILTER to
"tune" the gate to open at selected frequency - "wide" or "NARROW"
modes. The attack characteristic of the gate is exponential. This
ensures that, even at extremely fast attack settings, the attack
envelope seamlessly blends into the audio waveform, ensuring that no
undesirable audio artefacts (clicks) are created.</span></p>
					
					<h4><span style="font-size: 10pt;">i-TS (intelligent threshold shift)</span></h4>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">This
operates in conjunction with the gate hold function, to reduce
chattering within the gate. Chattering is the undesirable condition
that occurs when signals (especially low frequency ones) are very close
to the gate threshold. In this situation the gate can become indecisive
and repeatedly open and shut on the programme. i-TS ensures that the
gate remains open by automatically adjusting the threshold downwards
the moment the signal goes over the threshold setting. When the signal
eventually falls below the (new) temporarily adjusted threshold, the
i-TS re-sets, ready for the next gate opening. This hysteresis means
more decisive operation of the gate, ensuring that gating is rock
solid. Attacks start instantly and consistently, even on signals that
are only slightly over threshold.</span></p>
					
					<h4><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Stereo &amp; multiple-channel operation</span></h4>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Channels
can be linked (in all modes) for stereo, or multi-channel operation.
When any number of channels are linked, the linked channels all adopt
the mode of the left-hand channel of the linked group. This channel's
settings now control all the members of that group, only the make-up
gain and Side chain filter are independent.</span></p>
					
					<h4><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Solo Buss</span></h4>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Monitor
the sidechain filter during the performance, using the dedicated SOLO
OUTPUT. Connect the SOLO OUTPUT to a spare input channel, line return,
FX return, etc. on your mixing console. Any SOLO button press will
route that processors' SIDECHAIN MONITOR to the SOLO OUTPUT, allowing
monitoring of the sidechain filter without interrupting the audio
output of the processor. If the SOLO IN PLACE mode is active, the SOLO
IN PLACE LED will illuminate. In this mode the SIDECHAIN MONITOR signal
will replace the audio output when the SOLO button is pressed.</span></p>
					
					<h4><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Metering</span></h4>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">When
mixing live sound, it is essential to be able to see at-a-glance, how
the outboard processing is performing. Therefore, each channel of the
Square ONE convertible dynamics rack features a 6-segment 3-colour
input meter, and a 10-segment attenuation depth meter. The attenuation
depth meter operates in both compressor and gate modes. The use of
vertically oriented high-intensity LEDs makes for easy
peripheral-vision awareness of each channel's status.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">The Dynamics Processor shall provide eight complete channels of
either compression or gating, with push button selection and LED status
indication of operational mode on an individual channel basis.</span></p>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">The
compressor section on each channel shall provide for adjustment of
Threshold, Make-Up Gain, Attack and Release times and Ratio. There
shall be push button selection of RMS or Vintage Emulation (Peak)
response and push button selection of Soft or Hard knee mode on each
channel.</span></p>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">The gate section on each channel shall provide for adjustment of Threshold, Attack, Hold and Release times and Range.</span></p>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">The
Threshold, Attack and Release controls shall be operable by the same
rotary control knobs in compression and gating modes. Control of Ratio
and Range shall be performed using the same rotary control knob. There
shall be individual rotary control knobs for Make-Up Gain and Hold.</span></p>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Each
channel shall have a six-segment input level meter and a ten-segment
attenuation depth meter, which will show the gain reduction being
applied in both compression and gating modes.</span></p>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Each channel
shall have a sidechain band-pass filter with a rotary control knob for
frequency control and shall be enabled by a push button switch. The
band-pass filter shall have two different bandwidth settings,
selectable by a push button switch. There shall be provision for an
external sidechain input selected by the External Key switch with LED
status indication.</span></p>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">The Bypass switch shall set the signal path to unity gain on each channel and provide LED status.</span></p>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Each
channel shall have a Solo switch with LED status indication that sends
the sidechain signal to the Solo Bus Output connector.</span></p>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">A Solo Bus Input connector shall allow multiple Dynamics units to be chained together to form a common Solo Bus Output.</span></p>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">The
Side Chain Solo In Place switch shall have LED status indication and
change the function of each Solo switch; when selected the sidechain
signal shall be sent to the channel output connector instead of the
Solo Bus Output.</span></p>
					<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">The Dynamics Processor shall have the
ability to link the operation of any number of adjacent channels, which
shall all be summed into the sidechain of the left-hand linked channel
which shall control the gain of each of the linked channels. The

voltages double than all other preamplifiers in its class delivering
high headroom and big tone. Dual control Gain and Tube Drive enables a

compressor in the Studio Channel is a fully variable ultra-fast and
smooth VCA-based circuit with all of the controls needed for a wide

gain make up. The VCA-based compressor is known for musicality as well
as ultra fast attack with the ability to tame the fastest transients.
